The keenly observant among you will notice that I'm wearing a hair scrunchie in these photos. Lots of people see a scrunchie as just an '80s trend, but they were still around in the '90s. I definitely wore them back then and remember school friends wearing them also. That episode of Sex and the City where Carrie berates her boyfriend's scrunchie-wearing book character was probably the final death knell to the scrunchie. I'm not ready to embrace all scrunchies again, but felt that the bow on this one might help me get away with it.
Matching top and skirt: via car boot sale
Shoes: Miss Selfridge, ten years ago(!)
Bag: via car boot sale
Cat eye sunglasses: From a vintage fair in Cardiff
Occasionally something a bit nineties will pop back into fashion, like slip dresses, which I like because I'll give them a try this time around, after having spent the nineties dressed in oversized checked shirts and jeans. I always think florals like the ones I'm wearing here are a bit '90s. Not the stereotypical sunflower, there were lots of little florals on dark backgrounds just like this.
Today the fashion magazines call matching tops and bottoms 'co-ords', as in they co-ordinate with each other. I just call them matching. Lots of things can co-ordinate without being an exact match. I found this top and skirt set amongst some 1970s' dresses at the local car boot sale. There's no make, just a label saying that it's viscose and French. It's not modern, but I don't think it's that old, so I'm guessing nineties or noughties.
The shoes are noughties, it must have been around 2005 when I bought them. They were in the sale at Miss Selfridge and a complete impulse purchase. I haven't worn them for a long, long time, but on recently rediscovering them, after year upon year when I couldn't bear to throw them out, I got them re-heeled with the intention of wearing them this summer. They're made of a soft suede that's extremely comfortable and I love the striped heel.
Gosh I look pale in these photos. That's the weak Welsh sunlight for you.
