Another week, another selection of vintage reproduction clothing that I've tried and tested. Today's review is of the 'Lindsey' top from Lindybop, and the 'Monroe' cropped jeans from Collectif. I'm always on the look out for tops to wear to work, and the cropped jeans were to replace a pair I recently gave to charity. Read on for my verdict on both!
Vintagey tops with sleeves are always on my want-list, and work-appropriate ones at the top of that list. I liked the look of the Lindsey top, in a soft jersey (comfy), but with cuffs and collar to smarten it up a bit for a day at the office. My first impression was that the fabric is lovely, a nice thick jersey that is comfy and cosy. Unfortunately, the top runs a bit big. I ordered my usual size 12, but it's not a snug enough fit. I also noticed a few loose threads, and that the neckline doesn't quite line-up properly. Finally, the collar is just odd. I thought it ran all the way around the back like a normal collar, but the lapels are free-standing. I don't know how to explain this any other way, so see the pictures to understand what I mean!
Next up, the Monroe jeans. The denim is a nice quality and a good colour, and there's a tad stretch to help get a good fit. Unfortunately these again seemed to run a little big. This gave rise to a bit of a weird issue - because the waist isn't tight enough, the top part of the fabric 'sags' after a few minutes and creates a line across the front. "It's like you're wearing a denim mini skirt over leggings" was the husband's view. Again, you'll have to look at the pictures to fully understand what I'm talking about. I also don't like the way they fit over my derriere, it's not flattering. Finally, the length wasn't right for me. I usually prefer my cropped jeans with turn-ups, but on my leg length, that just looked oddly short. So, I think if you're tall you might be better just getting the long leg version and rolling them up.
My verdict then is to return both of these. My attempt at a shopping spree isn't going well is it?
The Collectif Monroe cropped jeans are now in the sale at just £10, and the Lindybop Lindsey top is also on sale, for £13.99. Let me know if you've purchased either, I'm curious to know if it's just me that's having these issues!
