The dress itself is from a cheap and cheerful brand, and I would normally pass on such brands. The fabric on this is actually not as cheap feeling as a lot of others, and the print is really good. The dress runs very small though. I'm wearing a size that's THREE sizes bigger than I normally wear. It's now officially the biggest sized item in my wardrobe.
I do hate how generic and usually boring the summer casual maxi dress has become on the high street, and you can bet that on a sunny day, a large proportion of the female population where I live will be wearing one. Usually a strapless version, in a clingy, thin jersey that gives everyone VPL. Teamed with lace-up sandals and a top knot. Not my thing. I took a bit of Seventies' inspiration, with some vintage eyewear and the bargain Swedish Hasbeens.

Maxi dress: Select, present from husband (thrifted)
Tinted glasses: Vintage, present from husban
Swedish Hasbeens: Thrifted!
Headscarf: Car boot sale
What do you think, have I managed to steer this maxi far enough away from boring? I have to say, I enjoyed wearing it, though I had to hike the skirt up over my knees when driving to make sure there wasn't any interference with the pedals!
Great summer look! Not boring at all. Totally effortless and colourful for our fleeting summer sun.
ReplyDeleteLove love this look! I really think the 70's is a decade made for you.

Great look - love the 70s vibe!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous outfit! Your husband knows you style well to have been able to pick this dress out despite that it's a brand you usually don't wear. The glasses and head wrap really bring everything together and dare I say, really make the outfit! Gorgeous look Porcelina!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great dress! Love the 70s vibe!
ReplyDeleteOMG this look is everything!! I love the sunglasses - I think they really make the whole look complete and bohemian chic!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely alternative to that all-too-common bland maxi - really lovely, and great with your shoes too for the 70s look. Kx
ReplyDeleteYou look gorgeous, everything works so well together and your dress is so beautiful! Very far from those jersey maxi dresses you described (I don't like them either)!
ReplyDeleteSummer, if you can call it that, has been the same here in Belgium ... I love that maxi you are wearing and especially the way you have styled it. Jersey maxi dresses make me shudder! Those thrifted Swedish Hasbeens are gorgeous and look very comfortable. Here's to hoping that summer remains for the rest of your holiday! xxx
ReplyDeleteThis 1970's look is so not boring at all, I actually love it especially pair with those sunglasses, hair-scarf and those awesome shoes! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great look on you Porcelina, had you not mentioned that the dress is from a present brand I'd imagined it was vintage.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you making use of that lovely porch of yours ;) I think this is a simple but stunning outfit - really striking in all the right ways. You look so good in maxis - you long-legged beauty you! xx
ReplyDeleteI love the headscarf! The whole outfit is lovely, but the pop of red from the scarf really helps pull attention towards your face. It's a super outfit.
ReplyDeleteOh, we have that same horrible thin jersey maxi dress look here too, especially in Swindon. They also seem to love really thin leggings too so you can clearly see the colour of their knickers! Such a great look!!
ReplyDeleteHowever, my dear, you look a millions miles away from that! Very 70s and the print is gorgeous, very ethnic. I used to live in maxi dresses during the summers of the mid 90s, but they were often made in crepe or viscose, so were rather more floaty than their counterparts of today. I also used to wear a couple of my mum's original 70s ones but there is absolutely no way I'd get into them now. xx
Don't forget the names of their first born tattooed on their forearms in addition to the topknot (or maybe that's just Walsall!)
ReplyDeleteGreat choice of maxi, I love a cheery African print and you've worn it fabulously, too. You totally rock 1970s fashion. xxx
The opening lines of this post sum up our weather this summer perfectly, too. No sooner has the 4+ months of rain, rain - and wait for it, more rain! ;D - dried up (essentially) than the first telltale nip of autumn is in the air. As much as I madly adore fall time, it would have been nice to have a proper summer. It's unheard of not to around these usually highly dry, arid parts. Oh well, there's always next year to look forward to.
ReplyDeleteBut enough about the weather - it will do as it pleases no matter what. Let's focus instead on the complete and total awesomeness that is this smashingly fabulous outfit. You've nailed the boho meets glam equation perfectly here and look flat out incredible in the process.

Oh my gosh I love this look and that dress... You have me so excited to wear my boho maxi dresses.. I just want to add more and more to my wardrobe x
ReplyDeleteYou've nailed the 70s look here, and you've made it look like summer perfection! I hope you get more lovely days of summer before fall really hits to style some more of these looks. ❤

Far away from boring! The retro vibes are strong and really make it special. You look fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI love this dress! So colourful! Pure 70's. But the shoes makes me sighs
