Green Dress & Red Leaves

Like many others, I'm beginning my blog post this week by mentioning a shocking event that has seen the vintage community pulling together to support a valued member and friend.  Jessica Cangiano, of the Chronically Vintage blog, and her husband Tony, lost their home and everything in it, in a suspected arson attack.  They made it out with their dog, but were unable to find their cat.  In the blink of an eye, they lost not only their home, but a beloved pet, and Jessica also lost her livelihood in the form of the contents of her online vintage shop.  In a marvellous show of 'we can do it' spirit, a fundraising campaign has been started to help them get back on their feet, as well as a Facebook group co-ordinating practical parcels.  It's been incredibly heartwarming to see everyone rally round.  If you're not in a position to donate, please at least consider sharing the campaign details on social media.  It's going to be a long road back to normality for them.

Right, that's my public service announcement done, on with the outfit.  The photographs in this post were take on a beautiful Autumn morning.  We were down in Cardiff for Lou Lou's Vintage Fair, and stopped in the local park to look at the trees.  Some are in full Autumnal glory, others still have a week or two until they peak.

Yes, that's the same jacket as last week!  I have been wearing it every day.  It's actually turned slightly milder though, and the fur collar gets a little warm when walking around.  Ah well, the cold will appear soon enough I'm sure.  We enjoyed browsing the fair.  I came away with a Scully Western shirt for £12, and that sweet little 1950s' hat I'm wearing in these photos for £12.  I'm not even sure the hat suits me, but I thought it was worth a try as I don't have many original 1950's hats in my collection.  It's bit of an era mish-mash, this outfit.  The hat is '50s, the dress more '40s, the jacket more '60s, and the bag '80s.  I just can't stick to one decade, it feels a little too prescribed sometimes, unless you're going to an era-themed event when I'll pull out all the stops and try to recreate the hair and makeup too.

Until next time!

  1. Poor Jessica and Tony. It is so heartening how everyone is rallying around and done their bit. Jessica is such a kind hearted person, I know she'd do the same for all of us.
You know how much I love a mish mash of eras in an outfit. You look fabulous. If I didn't know you already I'd definitely tell you how good you look if I saw you at a fair. That hat really suits you and that M&S jacket has earnt its money already. I love Crocket & Jones footwear, I've sold some fabulous pairs in the past - only because I've never found any in my size. xxx

  2. Hurray for mixing the eras together! Your outfit is fabulous: the jacket proves to be very versatile, looking fab with both jeans and a dress, and I am so in love with the little hat. I do think it suits you, and it is matching the colour of the leaves. xxx

  3. I feel so bad for Jessica right now. I was so happy to see how many people came together to help them get back on their feet, though - it might be a long road back to normal, as you said, but but she's definitely someone who deserves all the help she an get.
Love the outfit! Despite the "mish mash" of eras I think everything works together really nicely. I think the hat suits you beautifully, and it works perfectly with the gorgeous fall foliage.

  8. Who care about a mish mash when it looks this good ;) I think I'm mashing all the time without even really thinking about it - part of the joy of being in modern times! I love that you found the perfect tree to compliment your outfit xx
