Festive Doorways

I'm officially feeling festive.  Last weekend we went to a Christmas market at Miskin Manor, a local hotel.  They had decked the halls, and Christmas cheer was certainly present.  Roaring fires, the smell of seasonal scented candles, and Christmas songs provided by glamorous double-act Gentlemen Prefer Blondes in red sequin gowns.  Oh, and a Welsh male voice choir!  I do believe Father Christmas was in his grotto too, but we didn't pay him a visit.  Instead, we had a good browse of the stalls, and around the grounds.  The manor has a number of rather lovely doorways, so the obligatory photos were taken.

Coat: Monsoon, from jumble sale
Beret: Accessorize
Gloves: Dune
Boots: Jones the Bootmaker
Scarf: Vintage, from car boot sale
Bag: Car boot sale
Dress: Asda, from charity shop

This outfit is a bit unusual, with three items bought from proper shops!  I think I even paid full price for those boots and that beret, but the gloves were definitely in the sale.  It just shows how old some of these items are, from the days when I shopped quite a bit on the high street.  It would be interesting now to see what percentage of my wardrobe is high street, I suspect it's quite low.  I still can't help myself when it comes to some of the vintage repro brands though.  There have been lots of sales, deals and offers on this weekend, with the 'Black Friday' event, and I did make a few purchases.  It's still amusing to me that we have now adopted the American notion of Black Friday.  In the UK it used to mean the Friday before Christmas when the emergency services were most under pressure from traffic accidents and fights in pubs.

Did you make any purchases this weekend?

  1. Full price boots :O I think it's quite difficult to pick up decent boots for cheap though, I've never managed it... You look very chic and cosy in this outfit, perfect for Christmas market shopping. Also your hair is looking super curly recently, you've cracked it! xx

  2. The manor house is looking gorgeous and so do you! I love, love your coat and those boots are stunners! I've yet to come into the festive spirit, so maybe I should come to Wales and get to listen to a Welsh male voice choir? xxx

  4. You look very lovely, those boots are definitely worth the full price ;)

I was disappointed at the Black Friday sale this year, to be honest. Usually Collectif has -50% site wide sale, but now they only had -25% so that put me off from shopping with them and Lindy Bop and What Katie Did only had small selections of sale items (almost none of them stuff I want or need). Even though TopVintage had even smaller sale of -15%, it was the only place where I really wanted stuff from so that's where I shopped. Finally bought a new bag after my old one broke like 7 months ago :D

I also bought a couple of Christmas presents from Black Friday sales. At least that was money well spent and I hope my brother and his gf will enjoy their presents :) I bought a little something for myself as well as an impulse purchase while Christmas shopping, but let's pretend it was something I absolutely needed. 'Cause it was. Sort of.

  6. Your hair looks so pretty! I'm loving those soft waves - that's what I always hope my hair will look like peeking out from under a beret. What a fun day out, and a great place to show off a really cute look.

  10. You look so beautiful!!!! What a gorgeous place - I love the doorways and the interior is done up so cosy and delicious - looks like just the place for some cheeky mulled wine. Everything looks so charming and Christmassy! I do love the BF sales so I'm pretty happy that they've adopted them even in Australia. Also, those boots are brilliant!

  11. Those are really good boots!

I made no Black Friday purchases. I don't think we actually need very much. I've done nearly all my Christmas shopping. I was tempted by stuff, but had to remind myself that I don't need things for the sake of having things, and soon santa will bring me more things anyhow.

  12. I bought tow return flights to India so I think I probably got a bit more carried away than the average Black Friday punter buying a party frock or a telly!
That coat is smashing and the pink of your scarf really suits you. There used to be a chap on Walsall market who sold Jones, Bertie and Dune returns for under a tenner - my shoe collection was never better! xxx

I love your pussy bow blouse sticking out from your coat, and you were right to pay full price on the boots. They look perfect.

I don't have my Christmas decorations up yet . . . But after seeing all the beautiful decorations here, yep I'm going to decorate tomorrow and not wait another moment!
