I bought it a few months ago but after I got home I noticed that a previous owner must have had shorter arms than me and had folded the cuffs over and stitched them down. I had to unpick, reattach the poppers, and voila, it was ready to wear. I'm just thankful they didn't alter the hem too (it's probably meant to be longer than it is on me anyway!). I have been meaning to wear it for a few weeks, but we've had some weekends when it's been too warm to wear long sleeves - a chilly spell hit us last weekend and so I knew it was time to give the dress a spin. I wore it with my vintage 1970s boots, so this is a rare all-the-same-decade look for me.
Does anyone else in the UK feel like Autumn is coming early this year? I don't know why, maybe it's the change in the weather, but everything's started to feel a bit Autumnal already to me. I noticed the light has changed, it's got that late-summer quality. I've been eating baked apples and having early nights. I was also strangely drawn to stationery in a shop the other day (must be years of back-to-school mentality, and I'm sure working at a university perpetuates it greatly!).

Dress: Kati for Laura Phillips vintage 1970s maxi dress, from charity shop
Boots: Vintage 1970s boots, car boot sale
I don't know much about the brand Laura Phillips, and my quick internet search didn't turn up much information either. If anybody knows a bit about the history I'd love to hear from you.

This dress is such a lovely colour and the sleeves are great. It's nice that you were able to get them back to their proper length.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous dress: I love both the colour and the print. I'm completely with you in that the way you dress can change your mindset. And nature is definitely preparing for autumn here in Belgium too, which is very early. Can you believe blackberries are ready for picking? That's at least one month early. Hope you'll feel better soon! xxx
ReplyDeleteI've spied some blackberries nearly ready here too!!
DeleteAutumn is definitely on its way. I've had to put the heating on to get my laundry dry, or I'll have nothing to wear to work next week. And the rowan berries on my tree are as red as your dress!
ReplyDeleteOn which note - is there any decade you can't work, madam? You seem to be able to pull off every single one. There's a special skill right there.
There are definitely looks from each era that *don't* work as well on me - I just avoid them!!
DeleteVery pretty! I love this red floral dress on you - you always look so fabulous in 70s inspired looks, and this is no exception! I do love your philosophy on self care, and I'm glad that the dress (among other things) helped to bring your mindset around.
ReplyDeleteOh how I love this dress and your photos!
ReplyDeleteI agree that how we choose to dress can affect our mood.
It is still very hot here so no warnings of autumn at all. Fine by me. The longer fall holds off the longer winter holds off.
bisous

Love you in 70s styles and this is a gorgeous dress. This kind of look somehow brings out all of your natural beauty :) I've never heard of that brand either, a mystery... I always start feeling down around this time of year as summer starts to end - pretty much the only way I can cope is nice clothes to tackle the changing seasons! xx
ReplyDeleteI love a good 70s maxi and you always rock this style! The dress is beautiful and suits you perfectly, love your make-up too! x
ReplyDeleteThank you Kayla! Makeup is 4 products: gold eyeshadow stick and mascara, both M&S Autograph, Boots No.7 lipstick in classic rose, and Besame brightening powder for the t-zone.
DeleteI really like how the boots look with this dress. I have yet to try and wear my maxi dresses with boots. Very nice Porcelina.
ReplyDeleteThat's a fabulous dress and it fits you a treat. Perfect length on you and stunning colour.
ReplyDeleteI've got quite a few Katis in my collection. I don't know much about them, I imagine it was a boutique label sold in a lot of British boutiques but they are always lovely and great quality - nice wafty fabric.
Please don't mention the A word yet. It makes me miserable! xxx
Yes! I totally get what you are saying about clothing and mood! Also this dress is nothing short of amazing.

Such a beautiful colour and print
ReplyDeleteLaura Phillips was a British designer during the mid-20th Century. The height of her career was the 1970s, particularly through the label 'Kati at Laura Phillips'. I have no idea if Kati was a real person or just a sub-brand of the company. The label itself is pretty cool, I love the huge 1970s font of 'Kati'. You've got a classic piece of 1970s fashion there! xx
ReplyDeleteSuper dress, what a good find. I find I am drawn to stationery at this time of year too,
ReplyDeleteYep! I agree, Autumn is on it's way, I found mushrooms in my garden the other day! So wish Summer would return and we can wear all our summer beauties again. xx Lovely dress, it suits you. x Jacqui

Fabulous dress! what a gorgeous colour and yes definitely Autumnal bah.
ReplyDeleteMy how I love a good 1970's gathered sleeve and cuff - insert heart eyes emoji here :) This is a great dress, and the shorter length works really well with the boots too.
