My summer holiday has begun, and there could have been no better start than the absolutely glorious day trip we took to the beautiful Gower peninsula here in South Wales. Our destination was Rhossili Bay and the famous headland of Worm's Head. Rhossili beach was voted the top beach in Europe this year, thanks to its three mile arc of sand, remote location and dramatic backdrop. Judge for yourselves with this first photo...

My husband and I had a friend staying with us from abroad, and we were so happy that we were able to show off this amazing location to her at its best! Sometimes the coast is so misty that you can barely see the headland, and the bay is so exposed that it can be pretty wild.
It was breezy on our visit, but bright and sunny too, which was perfect. In fact, the weather was so good that my husband decided to brave the walk out to the headland of Worm's Head itself, which you can do at certain times when the tide is out. He rather ambitiously said that he'd be back in an hour. My friend and I didn't have on hiking boots so we stayed on the mainland (the route is fairly treacherous, with some jagged and slippery rocks) sitting in the sun, and enjoying a Joe's ice-cream. We did start to wonder about alerting the coastguard, when my husband finally made it back to us. He'd had quite the adventure, managing to spot some seals and do a bit of rock climbing to get to the very end of the headland. We did all then go down to the beach together, which is a breeze on the way down and a trifle demanding on the way back up. It was worth it.

We have been to Wales a few years ago! Oh my, it s a total different world! So beautiful! I hope to visit the UK in two weeks! But I think k we will be visiting the beaches of Hastings and Brighton then!😂
ReplyDeleteOne of my sisters lives near Brighton, a lovely part of the UK too. Enjoy it! x
DeleteThe Gower has been on our list for a long time, and your fabulous photos confirmed that it is more than worth a visit. Worm's Head looks very inviting to walk out to, although I'm not sure my vertigo would agree. Isn't that NT holiday cottage looking fantastic. Must be quite a view. Your outfit is perfect for a day out to the seaside! xxx
ReplyDeleteDefinitely come to the Gower! We could meet up too, it would be nice to see you in person. x
DeleteHow absolutely beautiful! Well worth the trip for that view, I think. I would love to see it on a misty day too, actually - it seems like it would be quite magical.
ReplyDeleteYou look so cute, too! It might just be a beach day outfit, but I like the jeans and the Keds.
It's really atmospheric in the mist, you can see how the vikings thought that the headland looked like a dragon.
DeleteIt looks a titch chilly compared to the beaches in Jamaica that I so love : )
ReplyDeleteThis coastline reminds me of Newfoundland or PEI. Just lovely.

You no doubt noted the absence of bikinis ;)
DeleteFor some reason I'm completely unable to log into my Google Profile for commenting, and when I've tried commenting on Blogger blogs this morning I don't think it's been posting them... so trying again! This place looks stunning. It's quite incredible that somewhere so unspoiled and I have to say, maybe not that well known? - won that top beach award. You really do live within reach of the most beautiful places. Also, love this jacket on you, you look great xx
ReplyDeleteWe'll have to take you to this beach next time you visit! It's about an hour and a half from us. x
DeleteWow what a beautiful beach to visit and holiday at! By the photos it looks like you had a wonderful day! :)
ReplyDeleteThere is so much beauty in your part of the world, Porcelina. Actually it's all around us any day, everyday. Thank you for asking, my wrist is healing on schedule, and only four weeks till I get my hardware off! Thanks for linking up, xo

Such a gorgeous beach - and what glorious weather you had for it.
ReplyDeleteI just don't know that part of the world at all - but your post has made it move even higher up our list! And how utterly stylish you look on the beach!
ReplyDeleteWhat a stunner of a beach (and the lady in red isn't too bad either!) How gorgeous is that little cottage, too? xxx
ReplyDeleteHow cute would it be to stay in that little holiday cottage on the beach!! I do love the seaside, all year round. It is such an energetic place to be. You definitly had the right idea with the little jacket to stay warm with the ocean breeze. Absolutely beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh how beautiful and how amazing would it be to stay in that cute cottage!!! Love your outfit, what a great jacket x
ReplyDeleteOh my! That cottage must be an amazing place to spend a holiday! It looks like such an interesting place.
