Like Mother, Like Daughter

It's Mothering Sunday here in the UK today, so I thought what better topic than to review mother-daughter style?  A while ago I posted some pictures of my mum on her wedding day, and included a picture of me playing dress-up in her bridal gown.

We tend to have completely different preferences when it comes to clothes.  Or so I thought.  It seems maybe we do share a bit of common ground when it comes to clothes after all...

Big hats

mother and daughter @porcelinasworld

It seems we both like a big hat.  I think my mum has something of a regal air in hers, whereas I just look like I'm up to mischief!  These photos were both taken at the same wedding, which is why we're both in blue as well.

Kimono jackets

There are so many similarities between these two looks - the fascinator, the wide leg black trousers, the white top underneath a kimono jacket.  My mum wore hers first, did I subconsciously copy it?!

Purple paisley

One from the archives (Mum, I bet you're regretting giving me that big box of photos!).  We are both wearing a dress in a purple paisley kind of print.  I was very surprised to find this photo of my mum, as I always thought she hated purple.  I laughed when I saw she'd chosen to pose next to a bin, then I realised there's loads of rubbish in my photo too.  Whoops!

I'm taking my mum to a special afternoon tea later this week, so I'll leave you with this photo of the two of us in our usual dissimilar outfits.

Happy Mother's Day, Mum!

(Please go easy on me for posting all of these photos of you...!)

  1. Hope you had a great day together! Looking at the photo of you both is making me a bit teary-eyed and wishing I still had mine. Your Mum does look regal in her big hat, and I love the photo from the archives! xxx

  2. How sweet this is! Your mother is clearly a bit of a style icon for you, and it's so cute to see the little similarities between your wardrobes. Happy Mother's Day to you and your mum!

  3. Such a sweet post, I can see a lot of your Mum in you! xxx

  4. Style passed from generation to generation!

  5. Aw, cute pictures! My mother and I have never taken a nice photo together, one of us is always grimacing!! Your mum is a stylish lady - I guess it has to come from somewhere :D xx

  6. Awww such a cute post Porcelina !
I have to agree with you, your mom has a regal touch :)

  7. I love your blog.. very nice colors & theme.
Did you design this website yourself or did you hire someone to do it for you?
Plz reply as I'm looking to design my own blog and would like
to find out where u got this from. appreciate it

  8. Aw, bless your mum, such beautiful photos. My mum would go nuts if I did this to her, she absolutely hates any attention. Enjoy your afternoon tea! I'm taking my mum for a spa day in a couple of weeks when I have some time off. I can't wait! xx

  9. This is so lovely to see, Porcelina! You and your mom look so happy, as well as stylish. xo

  10. I blog quite often and I truly appreciate your content.
Your article has really peaked my interest. I will
take a note of your website and keep checking for new details about once a
week. I opted in for your RSS feed too.

  11. What a lovely post. One thing my Mum and I have in common is we both hate having our picture taken so I'd be hard pressed to find many if I tried something similar.

  12. I love these photos of you two! So fun to realize you had more in common than you first thought.

  13. This is a really sweet post! My mum and I have similar enough tastes that we have done a fair bit of wardrobe swapping in the past. It's quite handy! If only her shoe size wasn't about half of mine!
